The human brain responds to sweetness with signals to eat more. By providing a sweet taste without any calories, however, artificial sweeteners cause us to crave more sweet foods and drinks, which can add up to excess calories. – Harvard School of Public Health
Artificial sweeteners are toxic to your body. Your liver will have to work extra hard to metabolize them, leaving you with less energy to think, move and have fun! You’ll also be aware by now that artificial sweeteners are linked to developing Type 2 Diabetes……Avoid them for an energised, healthy body!
Fizzy drinks and ‘low-fat’ and ‘low sugar’ food bars are loaded with these chemicals. Look out for them on labels. Have a piece of fruit and a packet of seeds or nuts on hand for emergency munchies! Natural sugars like honey and raw coconut sugar can be better options for baking and drinks, as well as adding cinnamon, vanilla pods and other natural sweet flavours.
Don’t freak out if you realise everything you eat is loaded with sweeteners and sugar – its hard to escape unless you eat a wholefoods diet! In the beginning, choose one or two snacks/meals a week to make better choices with – keep crowding out these processed foods with a whole foods style of eating and you will be feeling cleaner, leaner and energised within 6 months. You’ll have better skin too! That’s got to be worth the effort!
